Creating a World That Works for All: One Community at a Time

This digital story was created by 15-year-old Kate McCarthy about her mom, Maureen McCarthy, who has a fatal lung disease called Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM). Maureen interacts with the world in a completely different way, which to her is a "New Normal." She shows how even with challenges like poor health and a fatal disease, stress is optional. It's inspiring to see how she teaches people to create their own "Get Out of Jail Free" card on a daily basis.

I thank Kate and you Maureen for sharing that part of the story of your life. Now I have a deeper understanding of row, row. row, your boat gently down the stream.............and much more.
When the so called dying happens........I found it pretty enjoyable on the so called other side. It was painful in the coming back to the body at the age of 17.
Even though I know that the dying process is not really a death but just a transformation and shedding of the current body, I still felt a lot of loss when ones I held close and dear passed on. It's in the missing them that can be hard, but I know that we will all at some point meet again. (and some of them choose to revisit and comfort us that are still here).
Acceptance of letting go is as important as reaching out.
Having lots of friends and loved ones in this place we can call community helps one to remain here in this place we currently call the real world.
May we cherish your time here together, and on the other side forever.

Thank you for sharing your experience and finding inspiration for others through it. I'm so impressed with what your daughter created, and I love the idea of this website. It is so timely and useful. I look forward to attending one of your gatherings and hearing more.

Thank you, Maureen, and Kate, for sharing your beautiful and powerful story. It means so much to me, because I have a rare genetic heart disorder, and have tried at times to explain how I feel about that, which is exactly what you are sharing here!

My experience is that I am not "hypertrophic cardiomyopathy", whether I am on my way to Mayo Clinic for open heart surgery, or on my way home celebrating the miraculous disappearance of the obstruction blocking my heart that occurred three days before the scheduled surgery, so I didn't have to have it! I am simply the Spirit of life and love that exists within and beyond the framework of my body! I don't deny the existence of the physical challenge, but that is all it is... a challenge. I don't minimize the awesome miracle of the healing. But it doesn't define me any more than the disorder does! And one is not a failure, and the other a success. They are just what is happening while I am celebrating the gift of life in every moment of every day!

I am delighted to have your video to share with others. Thank you for the work you are doing, in all the various ways you are celebrating your life, and the joy you inspire with your clarity! Blessings, love and light to you, beautiful Maureen! Spiritsong

Your precious breath, that slight movement of air, forms a wind that inspires our future generations far beyond our current imaginations.
