ANNOUNCING A NEW COLLABORATIVE, MULTI-GENERATIONAL ECO VILLAGE IN ASHEVILLE

I am excited to share with you a new multi-generational eco-village about to begin construction in Asheville. One amazing feature is that the entire 63-cottage community will be built on eight acres of flat land, within an existing 165-acre luxury mountain community!

The Village at Crest Mountain is planned to be a world-class eco-village, with smart small cottage design, sustainable development and green building practices. By following a cohousing design model, the Village at Crest Mountain (VCM) will encourage community through inclusivity, diversity, and spiritual health.
Anyone can build green at luxury prices. To build effective, affordable green is an art, and a highly polished skill. It means making critical cost decisions. It means understanding the latest in building technologies and materials. It means finding the balance between art and science, efficiency and style. Much like life or art, no two journeys have been the same. VCM builders have each manifested “green building” in their own highly personal way.
The goal for every home in the Villages at Crest Mountain is to be at least Silver-level certified in the North Carolina Healthy Build Homes program ( Energy Star certification is a pre-requisite for this program ). Many of the base models will score much better than this, and we offer a substantial list of green upgrades to suit your needs and budget to increase the efficiency of your individual home.
Additionally, the developer has engaged the region’s top energy advisor to work with the builders and residents to maximize the energy efficiency of each home. As a result, they are able to offer an “energy bill guarantee” through a private third party insurance company based on the efficiency of the home.
In addition to “green building”, VCM will be the first community in Asheville to offer the home designed for you to age-in-place-in-community. With a compregensive array of thoughtful design elements which are Elder Friendly ( or even fully Handicap/Wheelchair accessible ), you can feel confident that your home, along with true community support, will sustain you for whatever later life may bring your way.
The Villages at Crest Mountain has designed the most comprehensive edible landscape strategy ever proposed in Asheville – period. The residents will enjoy common gardens, a greenhouse, orchards, a vineyard and local berries patches, along with expansive green spaces and ornamental plantings. In addition, each homeowner will have the opportunity to work with its highly acclaimed Permaculturalist to create individually custom landscaped home sites.

The Village at Crest Mountain is a part of the family-owned Crest Mountain community which has been welcoming families for years.
Land / home packages will be priced between the low $200,000s and low $300,000s.

You are invited to visit the web site at www.villagesatcrestmountain.com. Please keep in mind that only larger cottages are shown so far on the web site. We are still working on compatable one and two-bedroom sngle story cottage designs, which will be available soon. In addition, we will be designing a three-master-suite cottage for collaborative living at a very affordable price.

It is! And to be able to introduce a new green home in community that is DESIGNED for aging in place is extra exciting.
We will be presenting the project at the Asheville Communities Network meeting on Sunday, Sept 13, at Grace Episcopal Church on Merrimon Ave, followed by a cookout/potluck at Crest Mountain. Love to have you join us!
