Collaboration in Community

Creating a World That Works for All: One Community at a Time

Questions for Our World Cafe Community Events

We've been using a large group dialogue tool called The World Cafe for our large community gatherings. (www.theworldcafe.com)
The World Cafe uses the power of Questions to get a community talking and co-creating its future.

Our March 8th, 2009 Invitation was:
What Does It Take
to Sustain a Community?
Sustainability means “green”
and so much more.
How do we find what works and then keep it going?

We used the following Questions in our March 8th, 2009 World Cafe discussions:
1. Share your Personal Pledge to create a world that works for all from our last event with those at your table. What do you need to do to sustain your personal Pledge? (This ties into the I Pledge video we showed prior to this. Go to YouTube and type in I Pledge Video to see it.)
2. Think of a time you were in a positive community or collaboration experience, large or small. What were the elements that sustained or nurtured you?
3. What are the ideas, tools or practices that
you've seen work, and
more importantly, how do we keep them alive?

Our January 24th, 2009 Invitation was:
Collaboration in Community What does it mean to you? How can we grow more of it in a healthy, co-intelligent way?
We used the following Questions in our January 24th, 2009 World Cafe discussions:
1. Where have you experienced community in your life?
2. What are for you the essential aspects, characteristics or qualities of a healthy community?
3. What declaration of possibility can you make that has the power
to transform community and inspire you?

For the first event we held on December 13th, 2008, our invitation was around:
"How can we contribute to an evolutionary leap in living healthy, connected lives both locally and globally?"
We used the following Questions in our December 13th, 2008 World Cafe discussions:

1. What drew you here tonight? How can you provide that which you are seeking for someone else?
2. How do we create a sense of belonging between “the other” and ourselves? Who could we invite to this conversation on community that is not already a natural part of our networks?
3. If the people in this room were to create something together that would make a difference, what could it be?
