We had our first Community Event for people to start a year-long dialogue on how we can create an evolutionary leap in the way we build connected communities that support the lives we want to lead.
We certainly found out how passionate people are for this kind of conversation! We expected that maybe 40 or 50 people would show up on what was a Saturday night during the holiday season, but we had 103! So we scrambled to set up more cafe tables. It was a wonderful night of conversation and connection. After the World Cafe conversations, we had an amazing meal and the stunning voice of soul singer Kat Williams!
We learned a lot about what we need to do for our next event including; having a microphone sound system, smaller tables so people can be in a more intimate conversation, and to serve the food before the cafe begins.
We'd like to give an enormous amount of thanks to Kerry Lindsey, owner of The LakeHouse Lodge & Spa at Highland Lake, where we held the pilot event. Kerry is committed to building a sustainable community on his 200 acres of land along with the greater Asheville area that would be used as a model and learning center for other communities around the world.
We thank everyone for bringing their hearts and minds to the evening. Many people expressed their deep gratitude for creating the space for this type of deeper conversation and action within the community.
If you go back to the main page or click on the Photos tab above, you'll see the visual notes that were taken on the evening.
I very much like getting to meet everyone and hear their ideas and share my ideas. And the food is great! My request is that we spread out somehow so that I'm more comfortable with the level of the sound. I sat out the last round Saturday because it was just too loud for me. Also is there a limit to the number of people in the workshop. I'm interested but not ready to commit yet and I would like to know if it's getting close to full.
Thanks so much!

We also had some great results from the event. I'm attaching the results from the vote at the end around the most important priorities. The top 3 were:
1) Sustainability
2) Reinventing the Educational System
3) How Do We Create Community Using a Collaborative Framework?
